Imperfect Color Reproduction

We get some spectacular sunsets here at Brunswick Landing Marina.  There are marshes to our west.  I think that the Georgia heat causes water vapor to rise from the marshes which creates spectacular clouds and resulting thunderstorms.   I took the photo below last night.   It's typical.

If conditions are just right, the clouds are ablaze in reds and orange, like in the photo below.

I have twenty photos available for sale on DepositPhotos.com.  I upload photographs for their consideration, and an editor there accepts or rejects them.  So far, every single Brunswick sunset I've submitted has been rejected.   Why?

The photograph contains lighting mistakes. Common lighting mistakes include underexposure, overexposure, harsh lighting, unintended shadows, flare spots on an object, white-balance issues and imperfect color reproduction.

This is a stock boiler plate response.  I think that they don't believe that a sunset can really be that awesome.

I've also seen some really marvelous sunrises, a few of which I've posted here before.  I think the most fantastic was this one taken in Stamford, Connecticut.  It was one of this blog's first posts, February 15, 2011..

The above photo was not digitally altered in any way.  It's just the way it was.

  1. Hang in there Dave... I spent over 20 years in a local camera club doing competition photos. At first without exception almost every photo I submitted was thrown out (what a bunch of picky bastards), then one or two would make it into the finals. Eventually I made it into top position in judging, even though I had to outlive most of them to get there. Now, I'm a dam good judge of photography, to bad I can't remember how take award winning photos anymore. All the criticism serves to make you a better photog.
