Brunswick Bicycle Thief Strikes Again

After my bike was stolen a couple of months ago, we locked them up to our boat.  The problem with that is they'd move as the docklines stretched and chafe against the boat.  We decided to move them back up to the pavilion a couple of weeks ago.  This morning, this is what we found.

Our bikes are the two on the left.  Both front tires are gone, the brake cables cut, and the seats are gone.  I'm pretty sure it's the same guy that stole my bike before.  He does a brisk business in stolen bikes and parts.

I called the police about 10 AM.  It's now going on towards 1 PM and no sign of anyone yet.  I guess on their list of priorities, this is small stuff.  But it still pisses me off.

  1. One way to slow him down would be to buy a 20' plastic coated steel cable and weave it thru the frames and wheels and lock it. then you would still have to take the seats off and put them on the boat. :((

  2. Hmmm, obviously this person is familiar with the area. Isn't there a way to 'snag' this guy? Is there a way to set up a 'neighborhood watch', night time camera perhaps or some kind of the sidewalls of the bike tire. Good luck at catching the thief.

  3. Sounds like your marina has a security problem! Where are you? I want to make sure I don't stay there!

  4. I hope he cut himself on the brake cable and gets an infection that settles in his testicles! We often hear about petty theft and the perps being "too lazy to go out and get a real job." BS - scum like this takes joy in it, and they think they are better than us normal folks who try to take care of our stuff. No doubt there will be no satisfaction or resolution with the authorities, but we can hope karma bites the creep. Sorry this happened to you two - it certainly takes some of the fun out of being there.

Last time we updated bikes, we went with folders - not as good as full-size bikes, but easier to stash "out of sight."
