Happy Mother's Day!

My mom passed away in 2000.  My dad in 2010.  When my sister and I were going through dad's Clifton Park NY house, deciding what to give away to friends and relatives and what to keep, I came across ma's potato masher.   I remember watching her mash potatoes at the stove many, many times, for regular dinners (dad was a meat and potatoes guy) and special family get togethers.  I'd watch her mashing potatoes, listening to the sound of the masher clacking against the pot, steam rising...  a sign of a fine meal to come.

I don't have either of my parents anymore, but I have many fine memories.  And I have that potato masher.

Those of you who have your parents, enjoy them while you have them, especially your moms today.  Go visit, take her to lunch or dinner, or bring her flowers.  Mothers love flowers.  If you don't live close by, call.

If you don't have your mom, find comfort in this poem.

The Broken Chain
Author: Ron Tranmer
We little knew that day,
God was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly,
In death, we do the same.

It broke our hearts to lose you.
You did not go alone.
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.

You left us beautiful memories,
Your love is still our guide.
And although we cannot see you,
You are always at our side.

Our family chain is broken,
And nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again.
Happy mother's day ma.
The mother of my wonderful daughter, Becky, doesn't read blogs, but just in case, happy mother's day, Jahnn.
Happy mother's day Pamela, the mother of my two wonderful step-kids, Megan and Sean.

  1. On my grandparents' farm, Lunch was the big meal. Every day for fifty seven plus years, my grandmother boiled potatoes for lunch and fried the leftovers for supper.

When my dear grandmother passed, I snagged that perfectly cured cast iron skillet that had fried potatoes for ~20,805 meals. I also snagged the soup pot and the potato Masher, too.

Now, when I cook, I am surrounded by warm memories.

    Happy Mother's Day.
