'Tis a Soft Day

As you loyal followers know, Pam and I cruised south from Albany NY and travelled south down the Intracoastal Waterway.   The farther south we got, the better we liked it.  We finally stopped at Isle of Hope, Georgia, which is a suburb of Savannah.

One of the things we love is the warm weather.  Today, it is in the upper 70s with a gentle rain falling.  When I visited Ireland many years ago, the Irish referred to a day like this as a "soft day".   The light is soft and sounds are muted a tad.   I love soft days.  I don't have to feel guilty about goofing off all day.

Notice the low scudding clouds in the pic above?  That seems to be a regular thing here in Savannah, and probably everywhere else along the coast.   Last night we were hit by thunderstorms which were moving from west to east.  At the same time, lower clouds were moving from east to west.

Clouds at different elevations move in different directions, of course, but 180 degrees different?

It's been raining regularly here for the past week or so, which is a good thing.  The southeast has been experiencing a severe drought and the rain is needed.  We just need to time our doggie walks between showers.

The rain prompted our littlest crew member indoors.  He was in the helm station, watching me suspiciously.  Daughter Megan is terrified of spiders.  When I approached him to toss him outside, he ran away screaming like a little girl.   OK, I made up the last part, but I imagined it in my head as he quickly scampered away.

This is a wolf spider, non-lethal to humans.  We'll have to come up with a name for him.  Wolfie?  Wolfman Jack?  Jackie?

Here's a fun fact.  The Carolina Wolf Spider is South Carolina's official state spider.  South Carolina is the only state to have a state spider.  What are the other states waiting for?

  3. Our son who arrived from Savannah a few days ago, wakes up freezing in Rockport Dave.

It's a typical June morning here today at 5:21am, with the temperature about 48F. He's probably shaking right now.

You get acclimated to any weather in time I guess. We've had way too many soft days this spring in Rockport.
